Bob Shaw Lives United Serving as
Volunteer Campaign Chair for 2010/11
The United Way of Deschutes County has designated Bob Shaw, Chief Meteorologist and Community Affairs Director at News Channel 21, as its volunteer campaign chair for the 2010/11 annual fundraising campaign.
A United Way board member since 2008, Shaw is an excellent example of one who is dedicated to the campaign theme of “Live United”. Through his work with United Way of Deschutes County, by his continuing service to his community and by his dedication to family, Shaw is among the first to step-up to give, advocate and volunteer. As campaign chair, Shaw firmly believes in the fact that: “The United Way’s ‘Live United’ campaign provides such an easy and effective way for us to team up and offer a helping hand to our neighbors in need. When many of us pitch in a little, it can make a huge difference in the health and well-being of our entire community.”
A goal of $1.3 million has been set for the 2010/11 campaign. Fulfilling the organizational mission to, “Connect caring people to improve lives and shape a better community,” United Way of Deschutes County partners with 26 agencies in the county that work to directly impact four important focus areas: helping kids get a great start in life, keeping youth on track for success, meeting basic needs of individuals and families, and keeping children and families safe from violence and abuse.
Ken Wilhelm, Executive Director of United Way of Deschutes County, is quoted as saying, “…working together, united in our caring for this community and each other, we can meet the challenges that lie ahead of us in the year to come.” United Way enables individuals to work together to inspire more change and progress than one can make alone, each caring in their own way while living united.
Assisting Shaw with campaign duties will be cabinet members: Jeff Ludeman, Vice Chair; John Salzer, Corporate Calls; Sue Meyer, Speakers; and Tom Bahrman, Account Development.
The United Way of Deschutes County will kick off its 2010/11 campaign on September 14, at the Bend Metro Park and Recreation District Headquarters.
